I cannot get enough of smoothie bowls!  They are the easiest breakfast or lunch, only taking minutes to prepare!  If you are short on time, this is a great idea as it is easy to whip up and full of flavor.  And as the weather in San Francisco remains warm and in limbo between summer and fall, I love having this smoothie bowl midday!  It really is delicious.  There are only a handful of ingrediants, no extra sweeteners or dairy, just beautiful frozen fruit blended together to create a thick and creamy smoothie.  You can find frozen fruit at any grocery store or freeze fruit from the summer months to store away until you needed.  The other great thing about smoothie bowls are how versatile they are, suiting everyones desires.  I love this combination of sweet peaches, blended with the rich strawberries and creamy bananas.  But if you have blueberries or cherries, use those instead!  Any blend of fruit, with banana as your base, will work out to be delicious.  I also love adding a few dates at the end for a touch of caramel sweetness and soft texture.

The best part about making smoothies is the endless toppings!  You can add anything from nuts, to goji berries!  I love playing around with texture in my toppings by using cacao nibs for a crunchy bite and goji and mulberries for a softer bite.  Adding pomegranates also brings a burst of tart, sweetness to the smoothie.  Toppings are also functionally important because as you take bites into the smoothie you are signaling to your body to turn on your digestive system and to start producing digestive juices that will help break down the food in your stomach.

This smoothie bowl quickly takes care of your recommended daily fruit intake, as it has nearly 3 servings of fruit!  I also love adding maca powder whenever I can, as it is one of the best energy givers.  It works especially well as it blends right into the smoothie, adding a hint of lovely caramel flavor.  It is a root that has been ground into a powder.  Its been said that Incan warriors would consume maca before going into battle to increase stamina.  It really is a fantastic superfood to add to smoothies or oatmeal, before or after exercising for a much needed energy boost!
